Nerve impingement is just a fancy way of saying a nerve is getting pinched or compressed somewhere along its path—and your body’s letting you know.
Sometimes this shows up as sharp, shooting pain. Other times it feels like tingling, numbness, or a burning sensation that won’t go away. It can happen in your neck, your lower back, or even near your shoulder blade. It all depends on where the nerve is being affected.
People often don’t realize how sensitive nerves are. Even a small amount of pressure—like from a misaligned joint, a tight muscle, or a bulging disc—can cause significant symptoms. And the tricky part is, nerve pain doesn’t always show up where the problem actually is. For example, a nerve impingement in the neck might cause symptoms in the fingers.
With chiropractic care, the goal is to relieve that pressure. That might mean gently adjusting the spine, improving posture, or releasing nearby muscles. Once the nerve has room to function, the symptoms usually begin to fade.
